Mayor John Tory recently announced plans for the City of Toronto’s 2019 Clean Toronto Together campaign, and is encouraging residents, schools, businesses and community groups to take part in the annual spring cleanup.
On Friday, April 26, Toronto schools and businesses can participate in the corporate and school 20-Minute Makeover by cleaning up around their properties.
On Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28, residents and community groups can join the Community Cleanup Days and remove litter from public spaces such as parks, ravines, laneways and beaches in their neighbourhoods.
Participants are asked to register for their cleanups at livegreentoronto.ca. Registration helps the City to arrange special litter pickups, avoid duplicate cleanups and measure results. The deadline to register for either or both of the two Community Cleanup Days is April 17.
Now in its 16th year, Clean Toronto Together is Canada’s largest municipal spring cleanup program. Over a four-week period prior to the community cleanups, the City deploys more than 300 pieces of equipment, including litter vacuums, sweepers, front-end loaders, dump trucks, sidewalk sweepers and power washers, to remove dirt and debris from streets, parks and watercourses.
“Our annual Clean Toronto Together effort provides a great example of the power of community and shows what we can accomplish when everyone pitches in. I encourage Torontonians to participate in our 2019 spring cleanup – and to help keep litter in its place every day throughout the year” said Mayor John Tory.
