Discover how Toronto became the “centre of the universe” for astronomical research, education, and public outreach over the last 150+ years. Hear stories of the remarkable individuals, organizations, and institutions in our city that contributed to advancing the field worldwide. Begins at U of T Munk School of Global Affairs (315 Bloor Street West) and ends at Astronomy & Astrophysics Building (50 St. George Street).
Take a walk on the water side to learn the history of the Toronto Harbour Commission Building, Jack Layton Ferry Terminal, Harbourfront Centre, Ireland Park and Billy Bishop Airport, and the range of park spaces that dot the water’s edge. Starts at Toronto Harbour Commission Building (60 Harbour Street) and ends at Little Norway Park (659 Queens Quay West)
May 15 @ 5:30 – 7:00 – Fairbank Plaque Presentation
Celebrate the history of Fairbank Village with two historical plaques and the opening of the new Dufferin Hill Park. The village of Fairbank was founded in the early 19th century on land that was included in the 1805 Toronto Purchase treaty between the Mississaugas of the Credit River and the British Crown. Dufferin Hill Park is located at 1100 Briar Hill Ave. and was the site of a school for 184 years.
