Man Wanted For Assaulting A Female Police Officer

Toronto Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a man who is wanted for assaulting a police officer on Saturday, March 9th

At approximately 3:20 pm in the Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West, an officer had pulled a vehicle over. The male driver then proceeded to exit his vehicle and approach the female officer. He then proceeded to assault her, punching her several times in the head.

The man was last seen fleeing on foot, heading southbound on Weston Road

The female officer received medical treatment for her injuries, which were discovered to be serious but not life threatening.

The male driver has been identified as Dwayne Banfield, age 31, of Toronto. He is facing several charges including assaulting an officer causing bodily harm, escaping lawful custoday, and driving a motor vehicle with no valid plates.

He is described as 5’7″ to 5’9″, with a thin build, and short braids. He was wearing a bucket-style hat, possibly with white and blue colouring, a camouflage coat with a vertical zipper on the left upper arm, a name plate over the left chest bone, an unknown chain on left shoulder, and green pants.

He is to be considered violent. If seen, do not approach him and call 9-1-1 immediately.
