Celebrate with Mississauga Festival Youth Choir

The Mississauga Festival Youth Choir has two exciting reasons to celebrate as its 2016-17 season comes to and end. MFYC’s upcoming “ONE!” concert performance will commemorate both the choir’s 20th anniversary, as well as Canada’s upcoming 150th birthday. With 50 choristers performing, including MFYC alumni, this promises to be an exceptionally artistic and inspiring event.

Since 1997, MFYC has been proud to provide an inclusive, multicultural music education and performance program that is open to all youth in the community aged seven to 19. Under the direction of professional staff, the choir has built its foundation on the belief that all children have a right to a music education, and that all children can learn to sing. Having fun through learning is a fundamental principle that has supported the choir’s growth and success.

“ONE!” is set to showcase a diverse arrangement of song and music from around the world and is, therefore, a fitting celebration of both the choir and Canada’s shared philosophy of multiculturalism. The performance will include a new choral composition by Dr. Lori-Anne Dolloff, associate professor, music education, University of Toronto.

The choir will also perform songs with guest artists FreePlay Duo. The Toronto-based duo, comprised of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists Suba Sankaran and Dylan Bell, are acting as workshop clinicians for the choir as it prepares for “ONE!”. The choir is excited to have the opportunity to work with and learn from these professional musicians.

MFYC will take the stage to perform “ONE!” Saturday, May 27 at 7 pm at the Living Arts Centre’s RBC Theatre, 4141 Living Arts Dr. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at www.livingartscentre.ca or from the choir at www.mfyc.ca. For information about MFYC: www.mfyc.ca.
