Brampton’s Alessia Cara scores big in Grammy nominations

Brampton native, Alessia Cara, has gone from strength to strength since the 2015 release of her debut single Here and has been nominated for four Grammy Awards. Her debut album Know-It-All produced the top-ten Billboard Hot 100 hit “Scars to your Beautiful”, but it was her collaborations in 2017 that led to recognition by the prestigious awards group.

Cara is nominated for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” for the single, Stay that she generated with music producer, Zedd.  She is also nominated in two categories, “Song of the Year” and “Best Music Video” for the song, 1-800-273-8255 that she performed on with rapper, Logic.

Both songs reached seventh and third, respectively, on the Billboard charts, giving the former Cardinal Ambrozic Catholic Secondary School student her third and fourth U.S. hits. It doesn’t stop there. as Cara, who is not a brand new artist to the mainstream, was also nominated for a Grammy in the “Best New Artist” category.

“(R)eally honoured to be given this kind of acknowledgment. I’m not sure what to say or feel at the moment, but for now, thank u to everyone in my corner for all ur love,” read a statement by Cara on Twitter.
