Jane Austen buffs will flock this weekend to Montgomery’s Inn, one of Toronto’s beloved historic sites, for a weekend celebrating one of the best-known figures of nineteenth-century women’s writing. From Friday, March 22 to Sunday, March 24, 2019, “A Weekend with Jane Austen” provides an immersive experience to readers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of their daily lives.
The weekend will include five historical meals, music, letter-writing with quill pens and sealing wax, Regency fashion, Austen discussion groups, a Regency games night, a dance workshop and ball, historical parlour games, and much more. Guests are welcome to join in for the entire weekend or come for an afternoon. Historical clothing is optional but encouraged, and simple gowns are available for rent in the $25-35 range (as are breeches, trousers, historical shirts and waistcoats). Historical clothing and accessories will also be available for sale on-site.
Guests are strongly encouraged to pre-register for the weekend to ensure adequate space. Price lists for all events and registration forms are available at http://danceweavers.ca/WeekendwithJaneAusten.html. There are discounts available for students, seniors, and members of historical societies.
