A/SLt Hodder and the CAF Speaker’s Program

As part of the National Veteran’s Week Speaker’s Program, A/SLt Barbara Hodder visited Keystone International Secondary School on November 12, 2018 as part of our observance of Remembrance Day. After introductions and a tour by Cadet Sergeant Kevin Tran of the 48th Highlanders, A/SLt Hodder shared her story.

An immigrant to Canada, A/SLt Hodder feels passionate about giving back to her adopted country and sought to do so by joining the Naval Reserves at HMCS YORK. The motivation to join the military also stems from a desire to see what she was made of, to forge her own path, see Canada and connect with people. She is very fortunate to be able to do that through military service as well as through the National Veteran’s Week Speaker’s Program.

HMCS YORK receives approximately 80 requests per year for the weeks surrounding Remembrance Day from a variety of groups, ranging from schools to community groups and corporations. The aim of the program is to educate people about the importance of Remembrance Day, why we observe it and to take pride in the achievements of Canada’s military both past and present.
